Mission Statement:

Hey! Welcome to my first column. I feel like I should formally “introduce” myself, I mean, who am I? And why should you bother listening to me? Well, although I would love to write pages about myself, I ask that for the moment you simply trust me and believe me when I say I am a “geek-of-all-trades” and all I really want to do is offer up my opinion on things that I hope my fellow geeks will be interested in, whether it be movies, television, comics, video games, and anything in the realms of fantasy or science fiction. Over time, I think you’ll get a feel for who I am, the 30+ years I have spent embracing popular culture, and what my own personal biases are. And I do have biases – it is important to remember that my opinions are simply that: one man’s opinions, and I encourage anyone and everyone to agree or disagree with me on some level. But in the very least, I do hope that you will find my writings interesting and somewhat thought-provoking.

What’s inside and what’s ahead:

I thought I would start off my first column with a look back at this summer’s big movies. Movies are a good place to start, since they are pretty accessible to everyone and they make up such a large part of popular culture. And in every column, I hope to review new release movies. I’m going to focus on the more geeky fare… sci-fi and fantasy films, because that’s what I am more interested in, but occasionally I might include other movies if I see something particularly interesting. If all goes well, I’m going to branch out and include DVD reviews since that is another passion of me. Later I hope to introduce you to my take on the video game world as well, by reviewing and ranting on the latest developments in that industry. Did I mention I like to draw as well? One of my ambitions is to put some of my own stories into comic form and perhaps someday they will grace the pages of this website alongside some of the extraordinary talent already there! But let’s not get ahead of ourselves… I do have a day job as well and I may lose it if I waste any more time rambling. So welcome to my world, and I hope you enjoy your stay!

Summer movie roundup 2006:

Here’s a look back at some of the notable movies I saw this past summer. Overall, I have to say it was a lackluster summer for movies. Very few films got me out of my living room home theater and out into the real theater, but for the few films I did see, it is safe to say that I enjoyed them. But I usually see movies than this. I guess I will have a busy DVD season this fall!
