La Brea Swim Team Comic ... and Tees!!!
Okay, today's comic in Killjoy is a little digression, I admit. But I think it's hilarious, and I've been meaning to do this for a while. If you think it's funny too, and you just have to have a shirt or mug or something with this cool design on it, click here to go to the La Brea Swim Team shop!

A BIG WEEK for KilljoyComics: LAB RATS turns 50 strips old on Wednesday!!! Congrats to creator Mark Anticole and his little rodent buddies for their excellent strip! 'Killjoy' cartoonist Todd Swanson and 'Slap of Reality Man' creator Rick Antolic will both contribute guest strips to help celebrate Mark's achievement! So check back to the Lab Rats site for triple the fuzzy goodness:
Wednesday: Lab Rats 50th
Thursday: Lab Rats guest strip from Todd Swanson
Friday: Lab Rats guest strip from Rick Antolic!

And Killjoy will be late tomorrow (Tuesday) because of a pen crisis, but look for two new Killjoys Tuesday night and Friday, as usual.

This week the KJC team toured Pittsburgh's ToonSeum, a museum dedicated to the art and impact of cartoons. The fledgling museum, currently hosted by the Pittsburgh Children's Museum, is receiving heaps of support, not only from cartoonists, but also from numerous sponsors, including charitable foundations and the private sector. As a result, the ToonSeum plans to grow rapidly over the next few years: Next year, the ToonSeum will have homes in two other Pittsburgh museums, including the Warhol, and Joe Wos, founder of the ToonSeum, fully expects to have a new space devoted entirely to the ToonSeum as early as 2010! In the meantime, the ToonSeum already has been, and will continue to be home to many great shows, including the upcoming Snoopy and Schoolhouse Rock shows.

Click the ToonSeum icon in the top right corner of the screen to learn more about this awesome endeavor, and check this blog regularly to learn about the upcoming Web Comics Panel Discussion (coming in 2008), the Web Comics Exhibit (coming in 2009), and other KilljoyComics involvement with the ToonSeum!!! :-)

CONGRATULATIONS to Doc for Martin Molotov's 75th "Industrial Diamond" Anniversary! Also, check out Killjoy for details about the first-ever Killjoy "STRIP ME!" Contest details. Don't miss it!

January 15, 2008
Wow, KilljoyComics artists are becoming famous already, namely Rickster, creator of our own Slap of Reality Man. Watch Rick's interview on KDKA TV, where in his role as the president of the Pittsburgh Society of Illustrators (PSI), he talks about PSI's upcoming Pittsburgh RECAST: Pittsburgh Society of Illustrator's 10th Anniversary Exhibit:

Here's a pic of four of the six members of the illustrious Killjoy Comics team:

From left: Todd Swanson, Mark Anticole, Doc Holiday and Tony Schiffbauer. (Not shown: Rick Antolic and Tam Swanson.)

Though we appear to be clubbing in a swanky EuroTrash discotek, we're really brainstorming at Ryan's Pub, banking on our brain trust to make us millionaires on the conventions circuit. Have any tips for us? Email us at KilljoyComics@yahoo.com.

So far, we're planning on bedazzling the already scintillating halls of SPACE, Pittsburgh Comicon, and SPX. Come and see us! We'll be peddling our wares, including a KilljoyComics sampler booklet; Write of Passage, our first 24-hour comic; Potluck samplers; and more!

So where the heck is
Rick Antolic, surly senor of Slap of Reality Man? Why, he was being interviewed for a TV newscast, of course! As president of the Pittsburgh Society of Illustrators, Rick will wax poetic about his participation in the upcoming Pittsburgh RECAST: Pittsburgh Society of Illustrator's 10th Anniversary Exhibit on Pittsburgh's KDKA Evening News on Monday! (Check back on Tuesday for a link to this clip!)

Doc returns with a new Martin. Welcome back, Doc!

December Holidays!, 2007
Happiest of holiday seasons to all our readers!

December 19, 2007
A thousand apologies to Mark Anticole: though he submitted his new Lab Rats strip on time, as usual, I didn't post it 'til today. Tuesday night I updated his pages and tested locally, but never uploaded. Last night I was in the hospital with a sick kiddie. Very sorry, Mark!

November 27, 2007
Hi! Forgot to tell y'all that I wouldn't be back from Thanksgiving break until today. Apologies to Tony and check out the new Garbanzo today. Look for a new Killjoy on Friday!

November 21, 2007
HAPPY THANKSGIVING to all our loyal readers! ... and to the unloyal ones too -- I'm feeling charitable today! Well, only one Killjoy this week, but what you lack in Killjoy, you can make up for in turkey leftovers and holiday music. Enjoy that too!

November 20, 2007
Hey guys, Killjoy will come out today, but is delayed until tonight. It's about 90% done -- color and all -- just have to do the dialog. There's a slim chance I can squeeze out two strips tonight too, so perhaps your patience will be doubly rewarded. Tune in tonight. And tomorrow, the return of Lab Rats!!!

November 19, 2007
Hi True Believers! This is just a quick note that for Thanksgiving week, we're having a KJC holiday Thursday and Friday, so there will be no comics those two days. I would if I could, but I can't ...

Also, here's a picture of me (in the background) and Mark (foreground) peddling our 24-hour comic wares at GASP Con '07. Special thanks to Eye Level Entertainment for donating the table space! A good time was had by all!

November 16, 2007
Today, on the Lab Rats page, not only have we provided another Cowboy Jedi present for you, but there's an added treat: artwork by Mark for Nature of the Beast, a game he co-created. Check 'em out!

November 15, 2007
Hey everyone, Todd's back. After a hellish and embarrassing intestinal virus, I've returned to post all your favorite KJC comics. My apologies to all our readers and to our artists for being too pummelled by this illness to maintain the website. With some luck, it won't happen again for a while. In place of Tuesday's Killjoy, I've done a new Potluck, featuring my star-crossed Hamlet; perhaps inspired by long bouts of leaning over the toilet thinking, "To be, or not to be?" In any case, please also enjoy Garbanzo, with extra apologies to creator Tony.
Tomorrow, look for a new Killjoy and another LAB RATS featuring more Cowboy Jedi! If you missed the first installment of Cowboy Jedi, check out LAB RATS today as well!

November 2, 2007
We did it! Mark (Lab Rats) and I (Killjoy, RIP Simmons) have created our very first 24-hour comic. Naturally we had to do a 24-hour comic about doing a 24-hour comic. Click on the image to see samples from our momentous masterpiece! ...

To learn more about the 24-hour comic challenge, see Scott McCloud's instructions.

I'm being criminally negligent in updating the SPX retrospective, which is live, but under construction. If you can't wait to see what we saw, check out the un-labeled pix by clicking the "Events" button in the left column, then selecting the "SPX, 2007" link.

Today, Part 3 of the five-part "Oblivious" Killjoy storyline! Check back each day this week for a new Killjoy "Oblivious" strip!!! Then drop us a line. Love it? Hate it? Read 'em all and let me know what you think at KilljoyComics@yahoo.com! I want to know -- how bold can you go? Or is that, how dull can you go? Hm. You decide.

It looks like you can use the code 'FREESHIPMUGS' at zazzle.com to get free shipping on mugs (like the Lab Rats mug for instance) through December. So what are you waiting for? (PS: Don't tell the rats I was the one who bought the mug...)

October 11, 2007
Hey, Doc (a la Martin Molotov) and I are gonna be at the Small Press Expo (SPX) in Bethesda, MD, this Saturday. We won't have a table, but we'll be wandering from booth to booth, begging people to read our comics. So keep an eye out for us at the show, if you happen to be there; and next week come back here for pics and stories about our adventures!

Check this out -- probably the world's most clever coffee mug design by Mark Anticole of Lab Rats fame. Buy one today, and be a hero to countless lab mice the world over.

October 10, 2007
Notice anything different about KilljoyComics? Yeah, that's right! Please help us welcome GARBANZO!, our newest weekly comic! Garbanzo is the brainchild of brainy child (okay, adult) Tony Schiffbauer, a hilarious and all-around swell guy. We're all pretty jazzed here at KJC!

And to expand your ever-growing novelty coffee mug collection, the "Life is Beautiful: Enjoy it While it Lasts" mug is now for sale! Just click the image below, and then customize this shirt to suit your tastes!

So I've been a total slacker and haven't announced our REALLY BIG NEWS!!! KilljoyComics.com is rapidly approaching its 100th strip! And to help us celebrate, we're being honored by some big names in webcomics. Here are two of the artists that have graciously agreed to contribute guest strips, and there are more to come:

In honor of the heroes of 9/11, here's a site that deserves to be plugged -- and a simple way to make a difference: http://www.mygooddeed.org/

September 11, 2007
Moment of silence.

September 7, 2007
A thousand apologies for not posting a new Killjoy today. My baby was off her usual schedule yesterday, which put me off MY schedule -- anyway, I'll make it up to you next week with an extra Killjoy -- or maybe a new RIP Simmons.

At the end of September, Killjoy will celebrate her big upcoming 100th strip anniversary! And to help us celebrate, some exciting guest strips are in the works. Keep reading this month for tantalizing hints as to what talented, big-name webcomics are going to grace KilljoyComics with some rockin' guest strips. :-)

September 4, 2007
Well, bad news is, doesn't look like the roofer plans to show; the good news is, gave me time to finish today's comic! (Sorry it's late - Labor Day threw off my routine.)

So today's Killjoy is inspired by my college anthropology professor, who didn't get that her hypocracy was transparent to her students. Her condescending attitude knew no bounds. Nor did her ignorance.

August 8, 2007
ConRATulations, Lab Rats, on reaching twenty-five strips so quickly, and so humorously! Happy silver-strip anniversary!

August 1, 2007
New to KilljoyComics, check out the daily Cynical Quip. We'll try to update these bitter chestnuts, even if there's no new comic to post, heaven forbid.
So much cynicism -- so little time!
Do you have a favorite cynical quip from a famous cynic? Share it with us by emailing KilljoyComics@yahoo.com. If we use your quip, we'll credit you on the site.

July 15, 2007
Check it out! KilljoyComics received its very first fan art, a phenomenal Killjoy strip submitted by John Curcio. In one fell swoop, John's mastered my style and nailed Killjoy's humor: I guess it's no accident that his middle name is Leonardo! I only wish my scanner could do justice to John's exquisite pencilwork. Thank you, John, for this incredible contribution!

July 10, 2007
It occurs to me that Mark's interview with Spewgilist contains what might be considered KilljoyComics' first review. And what's more, it's positive! ... well, more or less. Ergo, I reprint the Pugilist's relevant snippet here, for your convenience:
"And then there's Killjoy Comics. Why? Because Mark has started contributing a comic for KillJoyComics.com. It bills itself as "Sufficiently Cynical" Comics for Cynics and our short perusal of the site leads us to ask but a single question: "Does the world really need more cynicism?"
To which we answer an enthusiastic: "HELL YEAH!" But we may have additional, undiagnosed, social issues. You check it out and decide for yourselves, but we loved the variety offered."

July 8, 2007
So in case you don't know it, our own Mark Anticole (LabRats) is also one of the masterminds at Eye Level Entertainment (ELE), the braintrust behind the strategic card game Nature of the Beast (NOB), in which animal factions battle for supremacy, unbeknownst to most of mankind. This past weekend, Mark attended ORIGINS in Columbus, OH, where NOB won the coveted Spewgie award, and Mark was interviewed by Pugilist himself, of Spewgilist.com.
* And you D&D and DragonLance veterans will appreciate this pic of Mark with fantasy-art legend Larry Elmore! ...
Simultaneously, Mark's brother Matt, another NOB founder, had a very successful day at AnthroCon in Pittsburgh, PA, where ELE sold oodles of games, and still found time to peddle some of Todd's (Killjoy, RIP Simmons) artwork. THANKS, MATT!

July 4, 2007
Hey, all, check out my new tee shirt design. It's time to turn my doodles into dollars, or so I hope. This "stag mage" design, the first of a series of four images I created this week, was one of Zazzle's 25 "Today's Best!" designs. The others are a wolf, a goat and a fox, my first foray into furry warriors, can be found on my Zazzle gallery:

July 3, 2007
I'm a busy bee this week, doing all kinds of random stuff. One of the things I've been doing is creating the very first Killjoy wallpaper. Check it out by clicking on the Downloads button in the column to the left. By the way, I couldn't decide whether I liked it better with word balloons or without, so let me know which you prefer. The word balloons will be included in a future bit of Killjoy swag, coming soon to a Shop page near you.

July 2, 2007
Okay, I've just added a Killjoy favicon for the KilljoyComics site. If you're like me, 'til this week, you have no idea what a favicon is: A favicon is a helpful little image that appears in your list of bookmarks (making for quick & easy reference), in the URL field of your navigation toolbar, and in the tab of a browser tabset. Right now, I think you can only see this if you're using Firefox. Soon I'll tweak it to also work in Internet Explorer. If I forget, send me a reminder email. A nice one. So anyway, if you click on the Bookmark this site button beneath the comics links, you'll see Killjoy -- a very tiny Killjoy -- to the left of your bookmark. :-)

June 26, 2007
If you read today's Killjoy, you may be wondering whether a science teacher could be that dense. Well, the sad truth is, this happened to me: My high school teacher, after telling us about the states of matter, had no idea what plasma was, even though (as I pointed out to him) it composed nearly 100% of all [visible] matter in the universe. Indeed, he had never heard of plasma. He said to me, "You mean like what's in your blood." Hm. Not surprising, as his supposed claim to fame, or so he repeatedly bragged to us, was that he had been "the only science major on his college football team." Wow. Thank goodness for the Mark Anticole's of the world.

June 19, 2007
Well, I'll be out of town Wednesday, so I'm gonna have to trust you and put Thursday's Martin up a day early. How much control do you have? We'll see!

June 17, 2007
HAPPY BIRTHDAY, DOC!!! Now, you're as old as I am/You're as old as I am/You're as old as I am!!!

June 15, 2007
Been wanting some cool Lab Rats swag but couldn't get your fix? Check out some spiffy new Lab Rats products featuring Dalton, Kepler and Tesla.

May 29, 2007
Hey, our own Mark Anticole, Lab Rats mastermind, contributed an awesome guest strip in honor of Martin Molotov's 50th strip. Check it out!.

May 25, 2007
So, today, two people asked me what happened to RIP Simmons, and if he was ever coming back. Two queries in one day. In my world, that's more than coincidence; it's the hand of Providence smacking me upside the head -- or maybe that was Slap of Reality Man.
Regardless, here's the deal: I probably have about 40 RIP Simmons strips already written, but with posting Killjoy twice a week, and maintaining the website, and with all my whatnots to take care of, RIP falls by the wayside. Thus the phrase "occasionally resurrected" under his homepage mugshot. But if you guys would prefer one fewer Killjoy in exchange for one more RIP Simmons, I need to know. Follow the contact us link to weigh in on your favorite KJC strips.

May 24, 2007
Since Doc's away on business this week -- wow, sounds weird, but he REALLY IS away on business -- yours truly did a Martin Molotov guest strip to fill in. Check out my existentialist Martin comic. It's, uh, in color -- sort of. (Do sepias count as being in color?)

May 23, 2007
So maybe you noticed, we had some technical difficulties: translated as "Todd forgot to pay his Internet extortion bill ... I mean, domain renewal fees." But BigDaddy has his money now, so we're good to go for another year -- assuming all goes well. If not, well, only 365 more days to get a KilljoyComics tee shirt. While supplies last. :-)

May 21, 2007
Hey all, let me know what you think of Killjoy in color!

May 17, 2007
Guess what day it is! Today Martin Motolov celebrates its 50th strip! To commemorate, Doc has submitted the third of three Cast strips to give us some insight into some recurring supporting characters. Help us celebrate by checking back next week to read guest strips by Mark [Lab Rats] and Todd [RIP Simmons; Killjoy]!

May 12, 2007
Hey, you may have been wondering, "Where are those ComiCon pictures Todd promised us?" Well, here they are!

May 10, 2007
Hi. Many of you have noticed a glitch with my guest strip on GirlsWithSlingshots. Around eight or nine o'clock, it seems to have disappeared. With some luck, it will be back up shortly. But if not, click here to see my GWS guest strip.

May 9, 2007
IT'S A'LIVE! My Girls with Slingshots guest strip is up a bit early on the GWS site. I hope her readers enjoy it half as much as Danielle seemed to. And it's in some great company. Check it out, and while you're there, check out the other great web comics that contributed guest strips!

May 7, 2007
Welcome visitors from GirlsWithSlingshots!!! Such an honor to do a guest strip for GWS! I don't mind telling you there would be no KilljoyComics.com without Danielle's inspiring genius and patient tutelage. Please peruse our comics, especially our regularly updated features: Killjoy, Martin Molotov, and Lab Rats -- but our more randomly updated titles, RIP Simmons and Slap of Reality Man, are heaps of fun too! There's something new here everyday. And if you happen to get hooked, please tell a friend. :-)

April 28, 2007
This weekend Doc and Todd introduced the kind attendees of the Pittsburgh ComiCon to KilljoyComics. We met lots of fun people, including some superb web comics creators, who inspired and educated us. Stay tuned for pics and a recap, coming soon! In the meantime, here are some of the awesome comics whose creators we met:

Hazzah! If you've been following the drama of the NEWS, you'll be thrilled to know that CafePress has recovered our images and our stores are up and running again, chomping at the bit to fulfill all your KJC merchandising needs. So we'll see if we can get our own shirts in time to sport them at the Pittsburgh ComiCon.

April 21, 2007
So, to all you local KJC affectionados: Doc, Todd and Rickster will all be roaming the aisles of the Pittsburgh ComiCon, schmoozing the experienced web cartoonists and begging everyone to visit our site. With some luck, CafePress will iron out their wrinkles and we'll all be wearing tee-shirts sporting our comic creations.

So look for Martin's combat boots, Killjoy's smirk or Slap of Reality Man's infamous Gauntlet of Truth bobbing among the throngs. We're only to eager to talk to you -- maybe a little too eager.

April 20, 2007
Tragedy! If you were planning on buying some KJC swag this weekend, like we were, we're all temporarily out of luck: CafePress is experiencing some technical difficulty. They promise that our images will be recovered and our stores back up ASAP. We'll see, I guess. Stay tuned.

April 19, 2007
Well, we're on our way to complete financial independence: I've got a start on some affiliate programs. What that means is that anytime you click on one of our affiliate links and make a purchase, KilljoyComics gets a percentage. So if you need some iTunes anyway, please feel free to buy them through our link. The fewer day-jobs we have, the more cartoons we can bring your way. :-)

Unfortunately, a lot of the big names have turned us down because, well, we're not YET a big name -- with assurances that we should get back to 'em as soon as we're grown up enough to play with the big boys.

April 18, 2007
Welcome to the first NEWS entry of KilljoyComics.com! Actually, I think the first news item is the news section itself. Short and sweet.
